Lake Michigan Kiteboarding

Muskegon Photography – Its taken a while to come across some good kitesurfing beaches that cooperate with kitesurfers, but here’s a growing list of suitable spots to frequent. Always have your best manners when dealing with lifeguards and make sure people know you’re there so if you need help on the lake, they will watch for you. Many beach-goers are not used to having kitesurfers around, or dealing with the extra pressures of watching you, in addition to the swimmers in the water. Fly safe and within your limits!

Muskegon, Michigan area Kitesurfing

Great kiting location on Lake Michigan. It is set up the same to Michigan City with a break wall making a harbor (with a beach). However, the beach at Muskegon in in between the break walls is a city park vs. at michigan city which is a power plant. So this means FLAT water in the harbor and wave riding on the outside. Also if you look at last years wind data, Muskegon would get those southery “thermals” at 15 -20 knts pretty much 5 days a week.

Pere Marquette Beach Kiteboarding Regulations

Welcome to Muskegon and Pere Marquette Beach. Local kiters and city officials have been functioning together to establish safe kiteboarding practices for the beach and on the water. Our objective is to proactively promote kiteboarding safety and prevent hazards or injuries. We think that this is the best way to guaranteed that our beach continues to be open to kiteboarders like you.

For the benefit of riding at this beach you must follow the rules listed below. Even though these rules apply year round, use extreme caution from June-August during busy “beach days”. Please use extra caution when flying your kite on the beach and riding near shore. We ask that you be respectful of this area, other kiters, and all beach goers. If this is your first time to our beach, please seek out any local kiters or instructors BEFORE YOU RIDE if you have any questions or concerns. They will be more than happy to assist you. Have a safe and secure Lake Michigan Kiteboarding experience!
